PESON was established in 1997, as a non-profit professional organization of Obstetricians, Pediatricians, Senior Nurses, General Practioner (family medicine), Senior Public health, Radiologist (sonologist), Anesthesiologist and allied professionals It is governed by an executive body elected every two years.

• To Promote maternal and newborn Health in Nepal.
• To contribute in reducing maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity in the country.
• To share knowledge and experiences related to newborn and maternal health among its members.
• To improve maternal and newborn health through research, training, service and advocacy
• To coordinate and collaborate with Govt, Non Govt and professional organizations on maternal and newborn health.
• To promote equity and quality of care on maternal and newborn health.
